Dear Graduate Students,

The University of Wisconsin–Madison Libraries are excited to continue supporting campus' effort to reboot research and begin offering Library by Appointment access to some facilities beginning with limited access to Memorial Library.

We recognize the vital role access to library resources has in the ability of researchers and students to continue their academic endeavors. While the Libraries worked to ensure as much access through online services as possible over the last several months while facilities were closed, the opportunity to begin slowly reopening library buildings is an important step.

Currently, on-site access is available to parts of Memorial Library and is limited to UW–Madison faculty, staff, and graduate students. Appointment slots are limited to facilitate physical distancing. Other facilities will gradually open as they become possible, adhering to health and safety guidelines and considering the ability to staff the locations. At this time, the primary focus of the Libraries is to provide increased access to collections, while developing a plan to gradually reopen spaces. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, face masks or face coverings are required to enter the/our facility. In addition, we request that you practice physical distancing of six feet apart.

Please note: before scheduling an appointment for on-site library access, your faculty advisor must first request permission for you to return to on-campus research by completing the Phase 2 Research Reboot request form available here. (See the procedure described in the Phase 2 Research Reboot request form FAQs.) After your advisor has completed the request form, you can then schedule an appointment directly through the Library by Appointment procedure. Once you have received an appointment, this indicates that your request has been approved. Please inform your faculty advisor to return to the request form and change the status of the Research Reboot Proposal (question 6) to "approved."
