The students are back — and so are we! Welcome to the fall 2022 edition of On Brand, University Marketing’s quarterly e-newsletter connecting campus partners to new UW–Madison brand resources. The start of the academic year has stirred us to create new assets for campus, from clever (if we may say so ourselves) holiday e-cards to convenient video intros and outros. Even more tools await below. Have an idea for a future issue? Drop us a line!

Holiday E-Card Extravaganza

’Tis nearly the season for holiday e-cards, and we’ve created a jolly slate of animated designs for campus use. From a winterized flamingo to a dancing Bucky, choose a holiday e-card design that will delight your campus colleagues and external partners.

A True Intro and Outro for Video

It’s now as simple (and visually pleasing) as ever to add officially branded intros and outros to your campus video productions. Choose from several options, with the UW logo fading into plain-color backgrounds or into the soothing ripples of Lake Mendota.

When Should I Use a QR Code?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few years (and if so, fair), you’ve likely experienced the QR code craze. They’re everywhere! Check out our new QR code guidelines for when and how to use them and for links to reputable generators.

Brand Gallery: F5, F5, F5

Refresh that page! The UW brand never goes out of style on our gallery grid. We’ve added samples from the new institutional print ad and UW student planner. Explore those — and a dozen or so more — for a growing bundle of inspiration.

The Benefits of Plain Language

When you’re developing new content or jazzing up existing copy, keep your audience in mind. Using plain language and avoiding technical terms will benefit your readers for reasons far beyond the obvious. Check out the recording from a recent UW Design Community session to learn why.

Mark that PDF the Right Way

Do you share project files back and forth (and back and forth again)? Of course you do! And instead of playing a game of PDF markup telephone, you can save everyone valuable time by using the same tools and techniques to suggest, review, and accept edits directly in a PDF file. Check out our new PDF markup guide, and share it widely with your project collaborators.
